This necklace is from Lagoona's Mad Science outfit. Look really carefully - see the pink circles? And the lines between the circles? Those two things tell me that this is no ordinary necklace (Does anyone at Monster High have ordinary jewelry?!) but actually a ball and stick model of a chemical.
So the pink circles are the balls and the lines between them are the sticks, but what does that mean?
You may have heard that everything in the universe is made from teeny tiny teeny atoms? I hope? Yes? Good.
When chemists make models of chemicals they sometimes use balls to show the atoms of the chemicals, and they use sticks to show how the atoms are joined together.
So Lagoona has been busy in the chemistry lab. I wonder what chemical she is wearing around her neck?
Usually ball and stick models use colors to tell the different kinds of atoms in a chemical. Lagoona's bling is all pink so that's no help. Hmmm . . . Lagoona's necklace is a bit of a stumper. Are you a chemist? Want to figure it out? If you go to Chem Spider you can draw ball and stick models in their editor and try and find a match. For now I'm just going to imagine that it's something monstrously delicious like chocolate . . . or ice scream? And if you want Lagoona's science-tastic look, you can find real silver ball and stick necklaces at Made with Molecules! |
